Queen Anne’s Revenge was the flagship of the pirate Edward Teach, later known as Blackbeard.

Queen Anne’s Revenge was built in Britain in 1710 and originally known as Concord. just one year out from port she was captured by the French who renamed her La Concorde and modified the vessel to hold more cargo.

Six years after that, in 1717, she was captured again, this time by Captain Benjamin Hornigold, a pirate.

Captain Hornigold handed the ship over to an aspiring pirate under his command - Edward Teach - who would go on to become known as Blackbeard, one of the most fearsome pirates ever.

Teach further modified La Concorde, adding around 20 guns to the 20 she already had. By the time he had finished upgrading her she was a highly fortified 300 tonne frigate.

Teach had served as a privateer in the Spanish War of Succession, plundering enemy vessels under consent of Queen Anne. From this he derived the name of Queen Anne’s Revenge and renamed la Concorde accordingly.

Teach terrorised the Caribbean as well as the west coast of Africa with Queen Anne’s Revenge until he ran her aground whilst trying to enter Beaufort Inlet in North Carolina. A recovery operation is currently ongoing in this area - many cannons and other artifacts have been recovered which may or may not prove that the discovered wreckage is indeed Queen Anne’s Revenge.
